Screenshots & Screen Capture
Methods to capture screen content correctly and safely, including partial screens, full pages, and common mistakes to avoid.
Need screenshot of ONLY part of the screen?
Windows:
Press: Windows + Shift + S
Mac:
Press: Cmd + Shift + 4
Select area → copied to clipboard instantly.
Paste anywhere with Ctrl+V / Cmd+V.
(You can also save it from the preview, if needed.)
Use Structured Screen Capture
In Microsoft Windows press:
Win + Shift + S
But here’s the upgrade:
After capturing:
• Paste into a dedicated “Evidence” document
• Add 1-line context below each image
• Date it
Random screenshots = useless.
Contextual screenshots = documentation.
On mobile, screenshots auto-save instantly.
Before sharing:
• Crop immediately
• Check gallery for accidental saves
• Delete originals if not needed
Long web page? Don’t take multiple screenshots.
Use Full-page Screenshot
(best for portal errors)
Firefox:
Right-click → Take Screenshot → Save full page
Edge:
⋯ → Web capture → Capture full page
Chrome:
Ctrl + Shift + I → Ctrl + Shift + P → Capture full size screenshot
Use Print-to-PDF
Ctrl + P → Save as PDF
Rule of thumb:
• Portal error / crash → Screenshot
• Compliance proof → PDF
Always capture before refreshing.
Screenshots may contain more than what’s visible.
Watch out for:
• Open tabs in browser
• File paths in title bar
• Notification pop-ups
Always review a screenshot before sharing.
