Budget session from January 28; Union Budget on February 1

Session to run till April 2; first phase ends February 13, Parliament to reconvene on March 9
The Budget Session of Parliament will commence on January 28 and continue till April 2, 2026, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Friday (January 9, 2026).
Mr. Rijiju in a post on X announced that President Droupadi Murmu has approved summoning the Parliament for the budget session, which as per the norm will be held in two phases.
The first phase of the Budget Session will conclude on February 13, after which Parliament will adjourn for a recess. The second phase will begin on March 9 and continue till April 2.
The intervening period between the two sessions is reserved for the Parliamentary department related standing committees to study the budgetary allocations.
The session will begin with President’s address, and the Budget will be tabled on February 1, Sunday.
Mr. Rijiju described the session as “a vital step towards meaningful debate and people-centric governance.”
