Aadhaar deactivated due to this reason?
Step-by-step procedure to reactivate Aadhaar number
Jul 11, 2025
Synopsis
UIDAI has introduced a reactivation procedure for Aadhaar numbers wrongly deactivated due to incorrect death records. Individuals can submit a reactivation request with biometric information to the nearest Regional/State Office. Upon verification, the Aadhaar number will be reactivated, and the Registrar of Births and Deaths will be notified, ensuring accurate records.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced an official reactivation procedure for cases where an individual's Aadhaar number has been wrongly deactivated due to their name being mistakenly listed in death records. This often happens when there is a data mismatch or an error in the death registration process, leading to the assumption that the Aadhaar number holder is deceased.
Does UIDAI deactivates Aadhaar on death of the person?
According to the UIDAI circular issued on July 7, 2025, “UIDAI deactivates the Aadhaar number of the deceased person based on validation and matching of death registration details with the database of death registering authority and Aadhaar database.”
What is Aadhaar?
Aadhaar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the Government of India.
