Sacrifice for an Aspiration [Submitted by Aditya Kumar S., July 16, 2008 Of all the things that I learnt in my life, the most important that I learnt is to aspire to be the best. Whatever be the profession we chose, to be successful one deliver their best. Continuous Learning, having excellent soft skills and providing quality service are some of the hallmarks of being a good professional. But what is that one quality that differentiates one among the rest? We learn from Japanese on the quality of the product they deliver. Haven't we learnt kaizen from them? I believe it is the ability to exceed the expectations of customers, society and the profession itself. "Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you." - Henry Ward Beecher is something which I recall every time a take an assignment. These words truly deserve to be carved in every person's heart who shares my dream. And to go beyond one's limit and to cherish the dream we lived for, one you cannot be chicken hearted, but needs to be a dare devil. Magical Words: I believe that aspiration and sacrifice are the magical words that successful people chanted to reach the pinnacle. It could be sacrifice of alternative career, quality time with friends and family and refusing to be ordinary. As George Bernard Shaw said, "Some men see things as they are, and say, 'Why?' I dream of things that never were, and say, 'Why not?' ". To speak in accounting language, sacrifice is not an expense but an investment in one's future. Aspiration is the net worth that one would dream for. Weighing aspiration and sacrifice: To achieve the best, these need to be balanced. To aspire and not to sacrifice is as good as day dreaming. It is important where, how and what we invest in to achieve our goal, that is what we need to understand. The more is the investment in future, the more is the net worth at the end of period. Having sacrificed without any purpose is just sheer waste of time. It is how good we strike the balance. I want to hold responsible for a standard than anybody could have even
