A Successful Corporate Leader
Leadership is the capacity to frame plans which will succeed and the
faculty to persuade others to carry them out in the face of all
difficulties. Leadership skills are essential for anyone who wants to
excel. Many people are successful but few are successful leaders.
How do we define 'leadership'? Well, 'leadership' is the quality of a
person to get good work out of other people, esp. subordinates. A good
leader is often a successful person because to succeed, one must possess
good leadership skills.
But leadership does not imply that one ought to simply extract good work
out of other people. It's the basic attitude of the person towards a
difficult situation. Even if the person is seemingly handling the
situation single-handedly, there is always some work that needs to be
completed by some other people. Getting the right results at the right
time out of those people requires leadership qualities.
So what does it take to be a good corporate leader? Apart from the basic
leadership skills mentioned above, it takes much more to be a good
corporate leader. The essence of leadership is to create and articulate a
vision, mobilising resources and delivering it to the people. The burning
desire to be ahead of others and a fire in the belly to make a difference
is what makes a good corporate leader.
However, a corporate leader must walk his talk. Agreed that the quality to
think futuristic and plan ahead does make a good corporate leader. But,
promises must be fulfilled, plans must be enforced and thoughts must be
accomplished. Talking and thinking big can take a person nowhere. The
ability to achieve what is aimed at makes a successful corporate leader.
Top corporate leaders are often successful people. To further enhance
their rank in corporate and social leadership, one must try to direct the
corporate progress towards social betterment too. It is society whose
support is most important for success in the real sense of the term.
Hence, the essence of a truly successful corporate leader is one who uses
his leadership skills towards the betterment of his/her company and
society as a whole.
